Polymer-Assisted Settling

Enhancing Floc Strength with Polymer Addition

Adding flocculant polymer builds larger, denser flocs that settle faster — boosting plate settler capacity and effluent quality.

Polymer-Assisted Settling

Polymers — anionic, cationic, or non-ionic — bridge fine particles into larger, stronger flocs. Even at low doses they dramatically improve settling velocity and floc shear resistance.

In a plate settler, polymer-assisted settling allows higher hydraulic loading without carryover, because the enhanced flocs settle well within the short inclined-plate travel distance.

Correct polymer type, dose, and mixing energy are essential: overdosing wastes chemicals and can re-stabilize particles, while proper dosing delivers clearer effluent and denser, easier-to-handle sludge.

Key Benefits

Faster Settling

Polymer builds dense flocs with high settling velocity.

Higher Capacity

Enables increased hydraulic loading without carryover.

Denser Sludge

Produces thicker, more easily dewatered sludge.
