Membrane Pretreatment

Reducing Fouling Load Ahead of Membranes

Plate settler clarification lowers suspended and colloidal solids ahead of UF, MF, RO, and MBR systems, reducing fouling and cleaning frequency.

Membrane Pretreatment

Membrane systems — microfiltration, ultrafiltration, reverse osmosis, and membrane bioreactors — are highly sensitive to suspended and colloidal solids, which cause fouling, higher transmembrane pressure, and more frequent cleaning.

A plate settler pretreatment stage removes the bulk of suspended and coagulated solids, delivering low-turbidity, low-SDI feed to the membranes. This protects membrane life and stabilizes flux.

By reducing the fouling load, plate settler pretreatment lowers chemical cleaning frequency, energy use, and membrane replacement costs across the plant lifecycle.

Key Benefits

Lower Fouling

Reduces suspended and colloidal load to membranes.

Stable Flux

Helps maintain flux and lower transmembrane pressure.

Longer Membrane Life

Cuts cleaning frequency and replacement cost.
