A lamella clarifier (the plate-settler family) removes solids by gravity across inclined plates. DAF floats solids with microbubbles. Particle density and oil content decide the winner.

“Lamella clarifier” is another name for an inclined plate settler — solids settle onto stacked plates and slide to a hopper. DAF does the opposite: it attaches microbubbles to solids and floats them to a surface skimmer.

The decision hinges on whether your solids sink or float, and whether the stream carries oil, grease, or low-density material.

The Verdict
