High-Rate Clarification with Lamella Plate Technology

The lamella clarifier is the European designation for what is also known as a plate settler or inclined plate settler. It uses stacked lamella plates to achieve high-rate sedimentation in a compact configuration.

Lamella Clarifier Technology

The term "lamella clarifier" is widely used in European engineering and process design. It refers to the same technology as an inclined plate settler: a sedimentation system that uses closely spaced, inclined plates (lamellae) to multiply the effective settling area.

In a lamella clarifier, water flows between parallel plates oriented at 55–60°. Particles settle onto the plate surfaces and slide into collection hoppers, while clarified water exits through overflow weirs. The lamella configuration is particularly effective when combined with upstream coagulation and flocculation.

Lamella clarifiers are used extensively in drinking water treatment, municipal wastewater treatment, and industrial applications including mining, chemical processing, and food & beverage production.
