Tertiary Clarification

Tertiary clarification is the final polishing step in advanced wastewater treatment, targeting residual suspended solids, turbidity, and chemically precipitated contaminants (particularly phosphorus) that remain after secondary treatment.

Plate settlers are ideal for tertiary clarification because the closely spaced inclined plates efficiently capture fine particles and precipitates that are difficult to settle in conventional systems. Combined with tertiary chemical dosing, plate settlers achieve effluent quality suitable for direct discharge to sensitive receiving waters or for water reuse applications.

Typical tertiary plate settler effluent quality: TSS < 5 mg/L, Turbidity < 1 NTU, Total Phosphorus < 0.3–0.5 mg/L.
