Sludge Separation
Sludge separation is central to any clarification process: the settled solids must be reliably removed from the clarified liquid and directed to sludge handling without re-suspending into the effluent.
In a plate settler, solids slide down the inclined plates into a collection hopper while clarified water rises to the outlet. The steep plate angle (typically 55–60°) promotes continuous self-cleaning and stable sludge removal.
This geometry produces a clear separation between clarified effluent and concentrated underflow, minimizing solids carryover and simplifying downstream sludge management.
