Primary Clarification
Primary clarification is the first major solids removal step in most wastewater treatment plants. Conventional primary clarifiers typically achieve 50–65% TSS removal and 25–40% BOD removal.
Plate settlers applied to primary clarification significantly improve these removal rates. With the addition of chemical conditioning, primary plate settlers can achieve 80–90% TSS removal and 50–60% BOD removal — reducing the organic load on downstream biological treatment and potentially allowing smaller biological reactors.
This is particularly valuable for WWTP upgrades where increasing primary treatment efficiency is the most cost-effective way to handle capacity growth without expanding biological treatment.
