Sizing Methodology
The fundamental sizing parameter for a plate settler is the required effective settling area, which is determined by the design flow rate divided by the target surface loading rate (SLR).
Required Settling Area:
A_required = Q / SLR
where Q = design flow [m³/h], SLR = surface loading rate [m/h]
Effective Plate Area:
A_plate = L × W × cos(θ)
where L = plate length, W = plate width, θ = plate angle
Number of Plates:
N = A_required / A_plate
