Fine Solids Removal
Fine solids and colloidal particles — typically below 50 microns — settle very slowly under gravity alone and often pass through conventional clarifiers. They are a common cause of persistent turbidity and downstream filter fouling.
Effective fine solids removal depends on destabilizing colloids through coagulation and building settleable flocs through flocculation. The closely spaced inclined plates of a plate settler then provide the short settling distance needed to capture these flocs at high throughput.
This makes plate settlers highly effective for polishing applications, filter and membrane pretreatment, and any process where fine particulate carryover must be minimized.
