The Challenge
Process effluent carried a variable suspended-solids load that periodically exceeded the site trade-effluent consent for discharge to sewer, risking surcharges and non-compliance.
Space in the plant was tight, and the operator wanted a compact, corrosion-resistant unit that could handle flow and solids variability with minimal operator attention.
The R+F Solution
R+F installed a high-rate PSH plate settler in stainless steel, preceded by coagulation and flocculation to form settleable floc. The compact unit fit into available plant space.
The design surface loading rate was set conservatively to absorb solids peaks, and sludge withdrawal was automated on a sludge-blanket sensor to maintain consistent effluent quality.
